Why we started

After the death of a family elder, I had my first close encounter with the funeral process and discovered how “invisible” death has become in a rapidly aging Singapore. Bodies are cremated quickly, emissions are released into the atmosphere, and the destination of the ashes is often unclear.

I became one of the youngest funeral director apprentices in Singapore, tracing the fate of cremated remains and emissions from the cremation process; documenting barriers to the adoption of environmentally sustainable burial practices; co-founded the Singapore Green Burial Association and worked with funeral industry professionals to promote traceable, environmentally sustainable burial options.
